What is a multi-stage hydraulic cylinder?
A multi-stage hydraulic cylinder is well-known as a telescopic hydraulic cylinder also, it is a type of hydraulic cylinder that features multiple stages or sections that collapse and expand to create a longer or shorter overall length. It is composed of two-stage or multi-stage piston cylinder, mainly composed of cylinder head, hydraulic cylinder barrel, sleeve, piston and other parts. This type of cylinder is commonly used in applications where a large stroke length is required but the installation space is limited.
Multi stage hydraulic cylinders are made up of a series of honed tubes, or stages, of decreasing diameter that are nested inside one another. The largest stage is typically the outermost, with subsequent stages fitting inside of it, and the smallest stage being the innermost. Each stage is connected to the next with a hydraulic line, and the cylinder operates using hydraulic fluid to extend or retract the stages.
When extended, the cylinder becomes longer and the outermost stage moves away from the cylinder body, creating a larger overall length. Conversely, when the cylinder is retracted, the stages collapse and the overall length of the cylinder is reduced. This telescopic action makes these cylinders useful for applications such as dump trucks, cranes, and other heavy machinery where a large stroke length is required but space is limited.
CHROME PLATED OD HONED TUBES FOR TELESCOPIC HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS
To manufacture hydraulic cylinder, honed tube and chrome plated bar are commonly used. However, in the case of telescopic hydraulic cylinders, each moving stage serves as both the cylinder barrel and rod. Therefore, to produce a telescopic hydraulic cylinder, a chrome plated tube with a honed inner diameter and chrome plated outer diameter is required.
The smooth inner diameter of the chrome plated tube functions as the cylinder barrel, while the outer diameter is ground, polished, and plated with chrome to act as the rod for the next stage. Our factory offers a wide range of honed tubes with chrome plated outer diameters suitable for telescopic hydraulic cylinders, with available materials such as SAE 1020, SAE 1026, ST52.3, E355, and CK45.
