What is 4140 steel?
Steel 4140 is AISI standard grade, it is a kind of alloy structural steel, equivalent to China standard GB 42CrMo.
SAE 4140 alloy steel has high fatigue strength and low notch sensitivity, high low temperature impact toughness, no obvious temper brittleness, and is mainly used in the quenched and tempered state. It is used to manufacture high-strength parts and parts with large cross-sections and other stress-bearing components under impact load. Such as high strength Hydraulic cylinder rods, penaumatic cylinder rods, the transmission eccentric shaft of the horizontal forging machine, the crankshaft of the forging press, etc.

4140 chrome plated rod is manufactured through SAE 4140 steel bar, by using high precision centerless grinding and polishing methods, and then chrome plated to a min. plating thickness of 20 microns (0.0008″), 25 microns (0.001″), or other. The chrome plating layer provides corrosion resistance and a highly reflective appearance.
4140 chrome plated rods are used widely by the hydraulic industries and pneumatic industries, and is also widely usually used for applications where high yield strength and tensile strength is required.
